Vessa is a village in South Chios and is included in the villages where mastic can be grown. Vessa, one of the oldest villages in Chios, is a typical example of medieval community, formed by four smaller communities. It is built on a strategic place to be protected by piratical threats, it had a tower and it was surrounded by a wall. However, the increase in population led the residents to build their homes out of the wall, as well.
